Beervanana in San Antonio

Quite a lot has been happening lately with craft beer in San Antonio. What with San Antonio Beer Week being announced recently and the debate heating up for HB 660, we’ve had a lot to think about. This weekend will be no exception and will  definitely give you plenty to choose from to keep you Saturday filled.

First up is a bottle release at Freetail Brewing Co. this Saturday,February 5. The latest to be bottled is this years Old Bat Rastard, a strong winter warmer, that usually shows itself this time of year; as well as Fortuna Roja, a barrel aged wild ale brewed with prickly pear. This is the first bottle release of the year for Freetail and starts promptly at 11:30am.

Coinciding with the bottle release is an informal HB 660 event to support the bill. Be ready to receive information about the current state of the Texas Brewpub law (or lack there of) and what the future could hold with 660’s passage.

A few miles across town takes you to the open house at Ranger Creek Brewing and Distilling. The event starts at 2pm and runs until around 5pm with a tour of the Brewstillery around 4pm. A special treat will go on tap right a 2pm, a small batch of their Wildflower Wit, a Wit brewed with Texas wildflowers that adds a great floral dimension. Be there on time, it won’t last all day.

The guys at the brewery will also have KHILL BBQ there serving food for a small price. They plan to have water and soda for the kiddos, and some limited seating. My experience with events like these is that it’s not a bad idea to bring a lawn chair or too, just in case seating runs out.

Whether you have time for one event or can fit both in, come on out and support our San Antonio craft breweries!
