Beer documentary CRAFT debuts in Oakland

Filmmaker and cicerone Craig Noble’s CRAFT beer documentary will make its Bay Area debut at The New Parkway Theater in Oakland on Thursday, April 10. The tour began in Portland, Ore., on April 3.
Noble’s coast-to-coast journey includes an apprenticeship at a farm brewery; beer schooling in Vermont that led to a cicerone certification; and the development of his own farmhouse ale recipe. “Part of the immersive nature of this process was the brewing of the Farmhouse Ale, which is documented in the final section of the film,” wrote Noble. Noble’s documentary takes a look at how craft breweries are maintaining the quality, creativity and integrity that thirsty beer connoisseurs have come to expect. It takes the audience behind the scenes for a glimpse at how the trailblazers, rogues and misfits of the beer world craft better beer. Breweries featured in the documentary include Crannog Ales, Driftwood, Lagunitas, The Commons, Port Brewing, The Lost Abbey, Hops and Grain, Odell, Funkwerks, Captain Lawrence, Enlightenment Ales, Allagash Zero Gravity, the American Brewers Guild, Dieu du ciel! and Bellwoods Brewery.
Noble, who hails from Vancouver, will be in attendance for the 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. screenings, with a Q&A session after each showing. Beers from Lagunitas and other craft beer from Northern California will be available.
Following the premiere in Oakland, CRAFT will be screened in San Diego on April 14, before heading east for a screening in New York on June 4. The tour will wrap up in Vancouver on June 26.
