Last June, one of Fort Smith's most talented musicians, Shane Bailey died unexpectedly. His death left a crater-sized hole in the lives of his family, as well as other talented musicians in the Fort Smith area. Shane's father Don, the head of the music department at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith (UAFS) campus set up the Shane Bailey Memorial Society to help kids who want to study music fulfill those dreams. Unfortunately dreams can cost a lot of money, that is why the organization will be hosting Party on the Patio, a fundraiser at Beef O' Brady's, located at 1220 Hwy 71 South Fort Smith, AR.
Previous events for the Shane Bailey Memorial Society have been held at some of the city's downtown hotspots on Garrison Avenue, however this will be the first one that kids will be able to attend. “I am a family friendly environment for them [area musicians]...a lot of the other venues kids can't go so that's why they like to do some of that stuff here,” said Kim Didier, one of the owners of Beef O' Brady's. It is because of this environment that many area musicians enjoy performing at Beef's, and many of Fort Smith's finest will get to do just that at Party on the Patio.
Party on the Patio is free for all to attend and will feature great food, as well as some of the areas most talented musicians. Those who are scheduled to perform include Laura and Grant Pierson, Gary Hutchinson, Bruce Fowler and Don Bailey & Friends. The event will be held from 7 PM-10PM.
