Blood sucking creatures are now a greater threat to The Empire State Building than a chest thumping King Kong. So far the tiny pests haves invaded Times Square's AMC Empire 25 Theater, the New York Public Library, Time Warner, and Victoria's Secret. Their latest victim in the infestation sweeping through New York City? Nike.
Nike representatives closed the store without warning. Windows wrapped in brown paper, locked doors and signs greeted unsuspecting shoppers who stopped at Niketown by East 57th Street.
" Our primary concern is the well being of our consumers and sales associates. We are taking all steps to eradicate this problem and expect our stores to open shortly" Nike stated.
Bed bugs infestation have cause many businessess to shut down. They are spreading to businesses all across the country in the most unsual way.
"It is all due to trucking," says Andrew Klein, President of Assured Environments. "We have found that bedbugs are hitching rides, being transported back and forth, into offices, into stores..."
Yet, regardless of how bed bugs are making their way into offices or stores, ruined merchandise, dropping sales, and heavy extermination are causing businesses a fortunate. Bed bug sniffing dogs can cost as much as 10 grand.
Bedbug experts are advising consumers to place items purchased in store locations that have had bed bug infestations in a dryer for twenty minutes before use.
"If they get on your clothes." remarked a shopper. "Anyone can be in the store and then they get in your house."
The lastest polls demonstrate that the bed bug infestations are influencing where people go in the city.
"I won't go to a theater in New York," said one New Yorker.
Terminix, the pest control company, ranked New York the number one bed bug city.

That is very disturbing!!! OMG!!
I think it's time the city stepped in and used their resources to prevent this health issue from growing. I don't like the idea of pesticides in the air but if we're spraying for West Nile Virus perhaps we should spray for this problem too.
I was going to visit new york from sydney australia, but I am shocked to hear of the "bed bug" infestation!! If I had not read about it myslef I would have not believed it! Where on earth do bed bugs come from!? You should definately spray them, to prevent infesting the world!!
