Do you realize that one out of every three women will be subject to some type of domestic violence in their lifetime? Another scary statistic is that now one in four teens will experience teen dating violence. The good people at Family Shelter Service (FSS) and other organizations dedicated to the same saving graces are determined to do something about that. They would like to alleviate domestic violence altogether, but until they can, they hold fundraisers that help them raise the funds required to help these women and their children escape a life of abuse.
You, too, can help the situation by either participating in the Hero for Hope program on October 27th (check-in begins at 9:00 a.m.) or making a tax-deductible donation. If you decide to participate, you can either do a 10K run or a 5K run or walk. Once you decide on how you would like to participate, you can set up your fundraiser page, email your family, friends and co-worker to get their support and even announce your participation on all of your social media sites. A fact that FSS has discovered is that those that use social media have been able to increase their donations by a whopping 40%!
Many of the participants have fun doing so. They dress up like a favorite super hero or create one of their own kind looks as they become an actual Hero for Hope. If you want to be one of those fun participants, it may be fun to prepare your costume in advance and then post your ‘hero’ photo on your social media sites. People love to view their heroes, too.
Another option is to disguise yourself behind a handsome mustache. Then, when others ask you about the fun on your lip, it will give you the perfect ‘in’ to speak about the throes of domestic abuse in your community or in our country at large. People love a good mustache and will surely donate to this great cause.
It will be beneficial for you and for your supporters to witness your progress as you keep them abreast on your sites. They will be thrilled to find out that the money that they have donated will go towards helping those women and children affected by domestic violence to find the safety that they deserve. Both you and they will literally be changing lives with your input. When you participate and begin the trend, you can actually feel as though you have put the ‘Super’ in Superhero!
