Our favorite loser, Beck, announces twelfth studio album Morning Phase set for release in February 2014. This news coincides with the artist signing to Capitol Records after finishing out his contract with Interscope Records in 2008, following Grammy nominated album Modern Guilt. Capitol gave way to very little but did indicate that Morning Phase will strike a similar aesthetic to Beck’s 2002 album Sea Change.
Beck has been a creative beam through the years making music, collaborating with fellow artists, starting a Record Club (a meeting of various musicians) and featuring many artistic forums on Beck.com. Beck is a musician that even though welcomed into the mainstream rock community, still personifies an aura of a cool underground artist. His musical style brilliantly fuses a mix of folk, country, hip-hop, funk, rock and blues.
Last year, Beck released Song Reader, a book of sheet music that included twenty songs and more than a hundred pages of art. And in February he launched the Sound and Vision experience where he re-imaged David Bowie’s song with an orchestra of 170 musicians; all captured with 360-degree cameras and recorded using 360-degree binaural audio, which was pretty mind blowing, musically.
Stay tuned for more information on the new record, and hopefully a debut single very soon.
