Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater presents ‘Law & Order-Fairy Tale Unit’

“Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit” parodies popular adult themed television show

The Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater will be presenting “Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit” on December 13 through 15 and December 20 through 22, 2013. The show will be performed in the Studio Theater with show times being 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Just as in our world, fairy tale land has its own system for criminal justice. There is the fairy tale police who investigate all allegations of fairy tale crime as well as the fairy tale district attorney who prosecutes the offenders.

These are their stories.

This popular work was originally written by Johathan Rand and is directed by theater instructor Rachel Spence (Associate Director of Outreach Education for the Beck Center for the Arts).

“It is an absolute blast directing these 31 students,” remarked Spence. “The kids really understand the material and are having fun with the parody style.” Spence has cast a variety of Beck Center students – actors, artists, dancers, and singers – who are currently enrolled in arts education classes.Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit features a talented cast of 31 young actors ages 6 to 12 who have all joined together to present this hilarious spoof under Spence’s creative direction. “Even if you’ve never seen any “Law and Order” episodes, you will still have a great time.”

The Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater program is considered the longest continually running youth theater program in the country and this year it is celebrating its 65th anniversary.

“Law & Order” is the second of four productions slated for this season. “The Children’s Hour will be performed February 21 through March 2, 2014 and “The Wizard of Oz” on May 9 through 18, 2014.

Tickets are now on sale. Seating in the Studio Theater is limited and tickets for Youth Theater’s holiday shows sell quickly.

Beck Center is located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. Free onsite parking is available.
