Because every child deserves a Christmas, the 2013 Toys for Tots Drive is under way as the US Marine Corps Reserve and partners across North Texas begin the collection of toys in the Metroplex to be distributed to needy children in the area. Last year the Marines collected more than 200,000 toys and received more than $400,000 in donations for this worthy cause. The toys collected are distributed to dozens of community agencies throughout the area to make sure that they go directly to North Texas kids in need.
This weekend several of the venues in Deep Ellum will be participating in the Toys For Tots 2013 benefit program. Come out to hear some outstanding music and to help give the unfortunate children of Dallas a toy for Christmas. No child deserves to be left out at this special time of the year. Don't know what to bring as your donation (in lieu of a cover charge)? There is no specific item list, but realistic looking weapons and gifts with food will not be accepted nor distributed. Many times there is a shortage of gifts suitable for pre-teens. Some items that you might bring for this group are books, backpacks, make-up, hair dryers, purses, wallets, bath gift sets, board games, sporting equipment, radio control cars, or hand-held electronics. If you know of a child that might be left out this Christmas, you can request toys here.
The Boiler Room, located at 2723 Elm Street, will host a Toys For Tots event this Friday, the 13th called Babes in Toyland. Frankie4Play will be the Santa of the day at the Boiler Room, and the girls of Deadly Sins Burlesque will be Santa’s Helpers. There will be a raffle with gift cards for restaurants in the area. Cover will be $5 at the door and a new $5 unwrapped toy will get you two raffle tickets, and the opportunity to buy more tickets, with all proceeds going to Toys For Tots. This is a 21+ event. The next night, December 14th, The Boiler Room will host a second event, Rock for Tots toy drive for Santa's Little Helpers, with New Voodoo, Dark Alliance, Gypsy Blue, Darlington, and Moonwaves providing the entertainment for the night. $10 door cover or $10 or more unwrapped toy gains entrance. Tickets can also be purchased here.
Also hosting a Toys For Tots event on the 13th is the Absinthe Lounge, located at 1409 S. Lamar. Bring an unwrapped toy and enjoy some holiday cheer.

Again on December 14th, Reno's Chop Shop will be the host of Rock For Toys with Toys For Tots with Deity of Destruction, The Results, Malconstruct, and Bleeding Nation. Reno's is located at 210 N. Crowdus Street.
Saving the biggest show for last, also on December 14th Trees will be hosting their 5th Annual Toys For Tots Concert featuring Drowning Pool. Also playing at this fundraiser will be Adakain, Even the Dead Love a Parade, and As Above, So Below. Tickets are just $.97 with an unwrapped toy at the door. Representatives from the Marine Corp will be on hand accepting the toys. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.
With all of these choices, how can you not be excited? This will be a great weekend! Go shopping today, then come do your part to help spread some Christmas cheer. Wouldn't it feel good to be able to bring a smile to a child's face? I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas!
