Since 2010, beauty addicts have flocked to Birchbox - a subscription site that allows users to receive monthly samples of various beauty products for a membership fee. The company allows customers a way in which to sample products without having to commit to buying the full sized versions. For people with sensitive skin or product allergies, or those who are simply picky, the service is a great way to be introduced to new brands and unknown products. If a customer likes something in their box, they can go online and purchase a full size.

Recently, the company, which is based in New York, opened its first free standing store in the city's Soho district. The store takes the sample experience up a notch, allowing customers to hang out at the "Try Bar" and sample new products. Customers can also build their own boxes and learn tips and tricks from Birchbox editors. The store's bottom floor offers a salon-like experience in which patrons can have their hair styled or choose from a variety of nail services, including polish changes and nail art (though you can't get a full mani).

This destination store is in an already popular shopping district, in a city known for glam. While the company takes the insights of its editors and shares them with customers all over the world, the Birchbox shop offers a more personal experience. Members can also spend their points in the store. If you're on your way to New York, check out the store.
