Oil-pulling has been a traditional remedy, but recently been appearing all over social media and gaining popularity. This trend is a way to prevent infections and plaque by getting lingering toxins and bacteria out of your mouth. Some say it may get rid of headaches, and other say it even increases the whiteness of your teeth. Celebrities such as Shailene Woodley and Gwyneth Paltrow do this.
You may use others, like pure sunflower, sesame or olive oil, but coconut oil is probably the most popular when it comes to oil pulling. Take a spoonful in the mouth and gargle for 20 minutes, then spit in the trash (not the sink). As you may know, I am a huge fan of coconut oil and all of it's benefits, but I only lasted a couple minutes when it came to swishing it.
This trend may be great for oral health and cleansing to the mouth, but in reality I think 20 minutes is too long just to swish. However, just from those couple minutes, my mouth felt cleaner and refreshed afterwards.
