Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that one day I would be sitting in the backrooms of Macy’s Union Square, conversing with Carlos Santana, about beauty, style, and women. My girlfriends? Maybe. But the legendary Woodstock musician? The electrifying guitarist? The performer who has touched generation after generation with his distinctive talent and flair? That is something I would have bet against a week ago. Nonetheless, there I was, on Fashion’s Night Out, meeting the man, face to face, an hour before he would walk onto the showroom floor to make a personal appearance, sign autographs, and promote his latest line of stylish, statement-making shoes.

On his shoe line:

Carlos Santana designs for something more important than trends and fads. He designs with the entire psyche of women in mind. Explaining that his inspiration to keep designing his shoe line “Carlos by Carlos Santana” is to keep women inspired with the ambition to create shoes that encourage women to feel confident, sexy, and comfortable in their own skin. “Trends they come and go” he said “It’s more important to know what works and to wear what makes you happy.”

On beauty:

Genuine beauty is timeless. Camouflage makeup and parading around bars is nothing but an interruption to the ability of seeing the true beauty of a woman. “Be vulnerable,” he said “when you’re free of your insecurities, when you’re free of uncertainty, and you stay positive within yourself … Good things come to you.”
 

Possessing an aura of straightforward honesty and an exceptional intellectual perspective, Carlos Santana is far more than a musician and artist. At heart, he is also a humanitarian, with an enormous spirit and an ever growing passion to enlighten and inspire each and every one of us to take hold of our existence, be the creators of our own destiny, and believe in who we are as sole individuals amongst the crowd of this world.
