Beauty product review: Mac Sheen Supreme lipstick in Ultra Darling (Photos)

Mac Cosmetics surprised everyone when they discontinued their popular product, Slimshines. The good news is they released a new line called the Sheen Supreme Lipstick that could blow the Slimshines out of the water.

On Mac’s website they describe the lipsticks as “coming the color impact of a lipstick with the shine sheen of a Lipglass, Sheen Supreme creates the perfect hybrid – with no compromise.” These lipsticks are extremely lightweight, they’re not sticky and they apply so smoothly. Mac considers these lipsticks as a “must have” for anyone who were hoping for “this kind of fusion.”

The Sheen Supreme lipsticks, which are part of the permanent collection, have a strong color but do come out looking like you added some lip gloss. The super moisturizing lipsticks have a little sheen to them, but the color is definitely buildable… Just like the Slimshines.

There are 14 beautiful shades in the collection that will sure be a huge hit among fans of the popular makeup line. The color purchased for this review was Ultra Darling. This particular lipstick is a pink coral shade that’s a little opaque with a bit of a glossy shine when applied.

Since these are a little on the opaque side the lasting power isn’t the longest. They are moisturizing, which is a bonus, but they only last on the lips for up to five hours depending on which shade you purchase. Like the regular Mac lipsticks, the Sheen Supreme has that vanilla scent to them.

Ultra Darling is a more pigmented shade that went on smoothly. The nice glossy finish added a nice touch since a gloss wasn’t needed. The lipstick lasted a good four hours before it faded, which isn’t a bad thing. Most other lipsticks I’ve used in the past, including Mac, only lasted two to three hours before I had to reapply. I do always add a little conditioner when I first wake up, but these lipsticks are moisturizing on its own.

Packaging is always something people consider when buying makeup. No one wants a lipstick packaging that’s so bad that they can’t bring it anywhere due to fear of it breaking or getting destroyed. The packaging on the Mac Sheen Supreme lipstick gets an A+ from me. It’s nice, sturdy and won’t get destroyed when it moves around in my purse.

Mac Sheen Supreme lipsticks run $14.50 and can be purchased at Mac free standing stores, the MAC pro store on Armitage in Chicago and department stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales in Chicago.

There’s a store called the Cosmetic Company Outlet, which is located at the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora, that currently sells the Slimshines for around $10. There’s a limited amount left, but they’re the only store that carries the Slimshines.
