Heard the express the expression, you should stop and smell the roses? Have you actually done that lately? Sometimes we get so busy in our daily lives with so many dead-lines and to-do lists that we often don’t slow down enough to pay attention to the things around us. Every day the sun goes up and down but do we take the time to see this happen? Are we so preoccupied that we walk by someone who is lost and needing directions but too afraid to ask or even too busy to learn our neighbors names? Sometimes, noticing those little things can make a big difference in someone’s life. When you think about it, the world is so beautiful and made for us but do we have eyes to see it like we should.
“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
Beauty is seen in His creation and that includes us. Creation is what God deems beautiful. When He created the Heavens and the Earth, He declares that it was good in Genesis 1; it is beautiful in His sight. You can see beauty of God’s creation all around you, in the changing of the seasons, sunsets and crashing waves of the ocean along the shore. Beauty of creation captivates our hearts when we take time to notice because it is made for us. Nature is beautiful but God’s best creation is us. We are beautiful in His sight. We are each created uniquely in His image and He loves us just the way He made us. That’s right, just the way that you are, no more, no less.
We need to take time to see the beauty He created in each other. To take time from our day to look up and see all that is around us. Give a smile to a stranger and learn the names of your neighbors, the laugh of a child playing joyfully in the park. Take this as a challenge to notice and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us every day.
