Beautiful summer weather to continue today, storms likely over the weekend

High pressure will provide us with another beautiful summer day. We will see lots of sunshine with comfortable temperatures and low humidity.

The high will shift to the east tonight, and a warm front will lift northward across the region late Saturday and Saturday night. Moisture will quickly increase Saturday as this front approaches. Showers and thunderstorms are likely across the area from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. A few of the storms could be severe.

A warm and muggy air mass will be in place across the state on Sunday, in advance of a strong cold front, which is scheduled to reach our area Sunday afternoon or evening. After a break in the showers and storms during the mid day hours, another round of activity is expected during the afternoon and evening. Once again, there will be the threat of severe weather.

Here is the forecast: For today, mostly sunny with highs near 80. Winds SW 5 mph.

Tonight, partly cloudy with lows in the mid to upper 50s. Winds S 5 mph.

Saturday, partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the low 80s. Winds S 10-15 mph.

Saturday night, partly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows will be in the mid 60s.

Sunday, partly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs will be around 80.

Extended Analysis: An unusually deep and cold upper trough will dig into the Great Lakes Monday, and remain across the area through mid week. Temperatures will be well below average with highs struggling to reach 70 Monday and Tuesday, then rebounding a bit to the low to mid 70s by Wednesday.

We will see considerable cloud cover Monday and Tuesday along with the threat of lake effect rain showers. Waterspouts will be possible over the lake as well.

By Wednesday, the atmosphere will dry sufficiently to inhibit the lake effect activity, leaving us with just partly sunny skies.
