I kept this story for you on Xmas day.
Last month, we were having an adoption day in a pet food store. In the middle of the afternoon, a lady came in with a pink carrier out of which we could see beautiful eyes and a rosy nose of what we figured was a male cat by his color: yellow and white.
Sure enough, Remy Martin, Remy for short, came in with his luggage and personal effects: carrier, litter box, food and bowls. The lady said "I had it only for a month but cannot keep it, I am a dog person. So instead of putting him outside since it is getting cold, I bring it to you". Then the threat: "if you don't take it I'll put it outside""
Remy was neutered and ... declawed. Poor thing, it was his third home in a few months and he was dropped in the middle of the store like garbage to be disposed of.
We promoted him all the rest of the afternoon to have him adopted instead of coming to the shelter to relive another stressy situation but to no avail.
But God works mysterious ways I guess. Just as we were packing our bags and cats to go back to the shelter, came in a lady saying " I heard you were giving away cats". So we explained that we had conditions for adoption then she mentioned she wanted to have the cat declawed. Since it is against our policy, I immediately proposed she looked at Remy that was already declawed.
When I told her the sad story of his abandonment, she immediately said: "I have been abandoned too and need rescuing also. I am divorced and the children are gone and I am living alone in a small apartment, that is why I need company".
OMG they were meant for each other, I told myself. Both will be rescuing each other.
She did not even took Remy out of his carrier, she just signed the adoption papers with tears in her eyes and made a cheque for the adoption fees which at $85 for a declawed and neutered male was quite a bargain.
Like we say in French "tout est bien qui finit bien". And Remy found a permanent home when there was no hope for him.
We still have to find out how he adapted to the lady and the new apartment but I bet he is a spoiled Remy Martin by now.
