For nearly five months, Penny, a Labrador retriever, has been housed at the West Valley Animal Care and Control in Chatsworth, Calif.
Little is known about Penny, identification number A0853643 - nothing more than her age, and the fact that she is spayed.
According to the facility's website, Penny is 13-years-old. As a large breed dog, it is likely that she is far too close to the end of her natural life.
In fact, with each passing day, alone in her kennel run, Penny edges ever closer to the end of her days.
At 13 years of age, Penny should be enjoying the moments of her Golden Years by the side of her favorite person, while lying on a soft bed.
Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Given that Penny's age is known, in addition to the fact that she is spayed, it is likely that someone surrendered her to this facility. The mere fact that the shelter has not put her down yet is a testament to her good demeanor.
With 756 dogs currently in this shelter system, it should go without saying that space is at a premium.
Penny needs to be networked if there is any hope of her walking out of this facility alive. Very few potential adopters walk into an animal control searching for a senior dog.
Penny gave the best years of her life to someone, now she needs to be taken in by somebody who wants to make what remains as comfortable, and special, as possible.
