    Yes it was quite nice.

In reference to your headline calling it a "Lennon/Beatles song", why not refer to it properly as a "Lennon/McCartney" song? Paul has claimed, with some musicological backup, that he composed the melody to John's lyric, so give the composer and only surviving witness the credit he deserves. I'm sure if the situation was reversed Yoko would be there on the spot waving a legal paper...

Yes, if Paul believes he helped write that song, he should get some credit. I remember watching the Mike Douglas Show (the ORIGINAL SHOW back in the early 70's!) when John & Yoko co-hosted it, and Douglas opened the show by singing "Michelle." John came on and thanked him for NOT singing "Yesterday," which he had nothing to do with, but that he DID help write "Michelle."
Credit where credit is due, that's all.

I agree with all above...and James Taylor is a great person to do the rendition and it was beautiful but isn't McCartney touring in the states? Wonder if he was invited to do what Taylor did?

    Rock on.

    Where was Farrah Fawcett??

  • John S. Damm 2 years ago

Leaving Farrah out was not right, especially since they included Michael Jackson who did less film work than FF.

Great Lennon/McCartney song but JT puts me to sleep every time. He is such a sensitive man.

Leaving Farrah out was a terrible omission.

James sang the song beautifully. Leaving out Gale Storm (a voting member of the academy who made more than 30 motion pictures and even has multiple stars on Hollywood Blvd.) is unforgivable! And, right...where was Farrah? Brittany Murphy (sorry, but true) was NOT a star...Michael Jackson was a music star who dabbled in a few motion pictures. On the plus side, they did show Monte Hale...when no one else did.

The headline was not meant to ignore Paul McCartney. It was just a general (and somewhat casual) reference to the song. And I agree that leaving off Farrah Fawcett and Gale Storm was wrong.

A John and Beatles song, Paul was one of the Beatles, soooo..... figgur it out. The cheap shot at Yoko is so unneccessary and so typical and stale.

Actually this look back at the passing of Hollywood veterans is my favorite part of the Oscars. Not so, this year. By having James Taylor warble live on stage. it takes the spotlight off of the deceased, which is completely mad. His version was, well, ghastly, and in the beginning of the segment you couldn't see the faces or names of the departed. Also leaving out Gale Storm and Farah Fawcett was inexcusable. This part of the show should be kept simple with just the live orchestra playing an appropriate piece, which by the way could have been "In My Life".

James Taylor is so great that he can sing 1,000 avg songs, and he still is great compared to his early live shows, when you're that good, you can mumble on stage, and still get a standing ovation
