Saturday, Feb. 23, Kami Garcia, co-author of "Beautiful Creatures," will be at the Bethesda, Md., Barnes & Noble at 2 p.m. to sign books and talk about the popular series.
"Beautiful Creatures" has been considered a tale of two Southern star-crossed lovers but with a supernatural twist. Ethan wants to escape small town life, but Lena, the mysterious new girl, has given him a reason to reconsider. Working together, they learn family secrets and the true history of their town.
The novel has been called Gothic, bittersweet, and magical, with some suggesting that it is similar to the work of Ann Rice. The "Beautiful Creatures" novels have become best sellers, according to the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly.
Warner Brothers & Alcon Entertainment brought the movie adaptation, directed by Academy Award nominee Richard LaGravenese, and starring: Viola Davis, Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Alice Englert, and Alden Ehrenrich to the big screen on Valentine's Day.
Kami Garcia grew up outside Washington, D.C., and also authors a series of books on her own, beginning with "Unbreakable," which is scheduled for release in October 2013.
