Beatles using social media to promote new "1" CD

EMI is getting out the word on the new Beatles "1" release, which has been available on iTunes for a week and hit U.S. brick-and-mortar stores Tuesday, using Twitter and Faceback and the phrase "MyBeatles1" that seems to be getting a good response. On Twitter, it's displayed as a Twitter hashtag, #mybeatles1, while it has its own page on Facebook.

The question to answer is "What is #mybeatles1?" In other words, what's your favorite Beatles No. 1 song?

It's generating good response and even shows up to be a trending topic on Twitter, which means it's very popular. Not all the Beatle songs mentioned in responses we saw were No. 1, but it was causing a lot of discussion there.  On Facebook, you can create your own Beatles "1" playlist.

If you have a Twitter account and aren't familiar with hashtags, just answer the question and include the #mybeatles1 hashtag in your response to join in.

The use of social media isn't really a surprise since it's such a popular form of promotion these days, but the idea that an institution like the Beatles are using it is interesting. It's in keeping with their strategy of marketing to all ages, especially keeping the lines of communication open with young audiences.

In addition to the online promotion, a limited edition, numbered lithograph print featuring picture covers of the Beatles singles is being sold through the Beatles online store. Only 250 are available in each of the U.S., European and Japanese stores. They can be ordered at www.thebeatles.com/store.
