Liverpool's Hard Days Night Hotel started the countdown to World Beatles Day on July 10 by hosting its first ever, live rooftop gig.
(You can see a video of the performance below. There is also a selection of photos from the concert in the slideshow at the bottom of the page.)
The Beatles tribute band The Backbeat Beatles performed four songs, including "A Hard Days Night" and "Twist and Shout," for passers by on the streets below to mark the hotels' support for the Beatles Day foundation, which raises money for local causes concentrating on those which promote the health and well being of children and young people.
The gig, which was organized ahead of Liverpool's third annual Beatles Day, paid tribute to the Beatles famous afternoon rooftop performance on the Apple rooftop on Jan. 30, 1969.
"We were delighted to team up with the Backbeat Beatles to host our first ever live performance on the roof of the hotel. The Beatles rooftop concert was the one last time the Beatles performed together, and it is great that we were able to recreate such a famous stunt whilst also raising awareness of the Beatles Day charity," said Mike Dewey, general manager at the Hard Days Night Hotel.
The Backbeat Beatles was formed in 1994 by actor and musician Chris O Neill who starred in the film "Backbeat."
"It was great to see everyone piling out of the offices nearby to enjoy the music and support the band. What better place to start the countdown to the many Beatles Day events taking place on July 10 than this fantastic Beatles inspired boutique hotel. We are looking forward to many more fundraising events in collaboration with the Hard Days Night Hotel throughout the year," said Gill ONeill, Beatles Day organiser.
