Woody Lifton has sent us a great report on this year’s Beatles Tribute Cruise event. “This year's Beatles Tribute Cruise was exciting, exhilarating and a real blast from the past,” he gushed, continuing, “Each of our wonderful guests made a huge impact on our private group of Beatles Tribute Cruisers.”
Here is his full report for the John Lennon Examiner:
Three concerts were given by house band YESTERDAY, including one poolside show that had the whole ship rockin' to the sounds of the Fab Four.
Laurence "LJ" Juber offered two intimate acoustic shows of Beatles and Wings tunes plus a guitar workshop and private guitar lessons. It was quite a thrill for our cruisers to get lessons from this former WINGS lead guitarist and Two Time Grammy Award winner. During one of his shows he remarked that he didn't think he needed to introduce these songs and with this audience he was certainly correct. All of our cruisers got LJ's newest CD "LJ PLays the Beatles Volume 2" autographed and many took some great photos with him.
Shannon- the World's Greatest Beatles stole the show AGAIN by introducing her new single "STAY DYNAMITE" and offering the first 100 copies of a Limited Edition to our cruisers. We also had the privilege of watching her paint live, it's simply breathtaking watching her art work come alive in front of you. Her contribution to these cruisers goes beyond what our cruisers got to see as she also donated the artwork for our poster and brochure.
Beatle Buddy Tony Bramwell joined us and regaled our cruisers with some great stories and REAL history of the Beatles. His stories and videos were so interesting that his book "Magical Mystery Tour- My Life With the Beatles" sold out in 2 days. Tony shared with us the original version of two of his Beatles films: (Did you know that Tony is the inventor of the music video...he called them "little films that we sent on tour INSTEAD of the Beatles) "The Beatles at Shea" and"A Day in the Life". You could find Tony entertaining our cruisers in the ship’s numerous bars almost every night. He was a huge hit and a terrific guest. Everyone wanted a copy of his T-Shirt that read "Still Pissed at Yoko".
Tony Perkins, former Good Morning America Weatherman and Entertainment Reporter was equally as knowledgeable and enjoyable. Tony showed his interviews with Ringo Starr and Olivia Harrison and could be found mingling with our guests during all of the events offered.
We were incredibly lucky to have Joe Johnson, the host and creator of the nationally syndicated radio show Beatle Brunch, as our MC for all of our events. Joe's knowledge of the Beatles and unique sense of humor were apparent at every event he ran. His "Name That Tune" and "Beatles Trivia Contest" were imported from the Fest For Beatles Fans and our cruisers had a great time trying win some great Beatles prizes.
The cruise was also a fund raiser for Thrive Survive of Los Angeles (founded by Nico Juber, LJ's daughter, who is a Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor) and we had great contributions from Abbey Road on the River, Vandor Products, MusicSkins.com, Shannon, Jorie Gracen, Nancy Andrews, Mitch Axelrod of the Fab Fourum podcasts, Bandtees.com, Wornfree.com, Eric Cash, Georgina Flood, Lionel Trains and many others.
Our cruisers helped us raise $1200 and tons of awareness for this very worthy cause.
We are currently working on Beatles Tribute Cruise 2012 and we promise it will be bigger and better, so stay tuned to our BTC Facebook profile for all the latest news from Beatles Tribute Cruise 2011 and 2012.
