Beatles' remastered "1" tops iTunes sales charts on first day

The Beatles' remastered "1" album became available digitally today exclusively on iTunes and it's already up on the top of the digital service's album chart in the U.S.

The 27-track "Beatles 1" is beating out other Top 5 albums by Lil Wayne, Adele, Maroon 5 and Katy Perry. It's also the only Beatles album in the top 100.

The album also debuted at #1 on other iTunes top albums charts around the world, including Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, Mexico, Sweden, Spain, New Zealand and Greece, according to EMI, which says the Beatles have now sold more than nine million songs and over 1.5 million albums on iTunes worldwide.

Since its original release in 2000, 30 million physical copies of the Beatles "1" have been sold around the world, including more than 11.7 million RIAA Diamond-certified sales in the U.S. where "1" topped Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart for eight weeks on its way to becoming the top-selling album of the 2000-2009 decade.
