On May 13, Julien's Auctions held a press preview of its upcoming auction later this week featuring two Beatles guitars. The Music Icons, Legends and Rebels Auction will feature a 1962 Rickenbacker guitar played by George Harrison and John Lennon and used at Abbey Road Studios during the recording of “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”

Lennon as artist: There's been no official announcement yet, but a very affordable collection of John Lennon's artwork will be released in October just in time for John Lennon's birthday, according to a listing on Amazon.com. “John Lennon: The Collected Artwork,” as it's called, will feature more than 200 images, including 25 previously unseen items from Yoko Ono's archives.

“Throughout the course of his career, John Lennon’s work as an artist expressed common societal themes from every epoch he witnessed. Until now, little of this work has been seen in one place,” reads the description. “For the first time, John Lennon: The Collected Artwork offers a visually captivating history of Lennon’s art.

“Often surreal and extremely vibrant, Lennon’s drawings were widely considered some of the finest interpretive art of the era. His 1969 Bag One series, frequently censored due to its overt eroticism, is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and his peace-themed sketches have been used in antiwar movements since the 1970s. Selections from these and many other series are featured in this matchless collection, a beautiful showpiece and a timeless record of Lennon’s emotional, political, and imaginative spirit.”

The cost is under $35, which is pretty affordable way to appreciate Lennon's artwork. We'll be looking for more details on this. (Thanks to Mike Rapsis for the tip.)

Lennon drawings on sale: What is said to be the biggest collection ever of John Lennon manuscripts will be auctioned in June by Sotheby's, reports Rolling Stone. You can see pictures of some of them in the slideshow on this page.
