Beatles, Jackson Five, Hank Williams head up 2011 Grammy Hall of Fame inductees

DEC. 7 - Songs or albums by the Beatles, the Jackson Five, Fats Domino, Joan Baez, the Animals, the Meters, Weather Report, Ray Charles, Hank Williams Sr., Clifton Chenier, Harry Chapin, Blind Willie Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt were among the 30 newest inductees to the Grammy Hall of Fame announced Tuesday by the Recording Academy.  

The Beatles' 1967 single "Penny Lane" got the nod as the Beatles latest Grammy Hall of Fame inductee. Other Beatles Grammy Hall of Fame entries include the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album (1993), "Yesterday" (1997), "Strawberry Fields Forever" (1999) and "Hey Jude" (2001).

The Hall Of Fame was established in 1973 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. Recordings are reviewed annually by a special member committee from all branches of the recording industry. Final approval is made by recording academy trustees. With the 30 new titles, the list currently totals 881.
