Beatles iTunes update: Latest U.S. bestsellers; UK chart changes

On the fifth day of iTunes, the Beatles still showing up in the best-selling albums and singles charts.

Three Beatles albums are in the top 10 as of 3:45 p.m. ET Nov. 21: "Abbey Road" is #3, "The Beatles (White Album) is #9 and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is #10. Up to the top 25, "1967-1970" is 11, "1962-1966" is #15, The Beatles Box Set is #16, "Rubber Soul" is #18, "Magical Mystery Tour" is #23 and "Revolver" is #25.

Above that, "Let It Be" is #30, "A Hard Day's Night" is #31 and "Please Please Me" is #40.

On the singles side, "Here Comes the Sun" is still the best-selling single tune, but it's also the only single song in the top 40 at #37.

The slowed showings on the singles is a little surprising, but the albums appear to be holding their own. It'll be interesting to see how long this lasts and what might change during the holidays. By the way, Apple is also offering Beatles iTunes gift cards in $50 and $100 denominations.

Richard Porter sent us this update Friday from the UK:

The Beatles have slipped a bit on the UK Itunes chart after a very strong opening. At one point the Red and Blue albums plus Sgt Pepper were all in the top 10. Now the Blue album is at number 10, with Pepper at 14 the the Red Album at 15. All the albums are now off their peaks with the biggest drop being for the boxed set, which is down to 53.

In the songs chart The Beatles reached a peak of 64 songs (a very Beatles number!) in the top 200. Now there are 52. The top song is still Hey Jude - but it has dipped from a high of 25 to 31.

I suppose this slight dip is to be expected after all the initial publicity has died down. However tomorrow 'The X Factor'  (the UK equivalent of 'American Idol) is having a Beatles themed show - and it is expect that sales on iTunes will be boosted by this.
