The San Francisco Art Exchange announced Dec. 5 that it has secured exclusive access to an incredible collection of Beatles memorabilia that it will sell this month. The collection includes two of George Martin's personal tapes used in the production of “The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl” album.
According to the description for the tapes, “From the original live recordings made in 1964 & 1965, George Martin used these tapes in 1977 to aid in the process of remastering the audio for The Beatles only live album ever released. Sir George has personally authenticated the tapes with his signature.” The album, released on vinyl, has yet to be released to CD.
Also up for sale is an original set list from the show at the Stowe School for Boys Set List on April 4, 1963 autographed by all four Beatles. According to Mark Lewisohn in “The Complete Beatles Chronicle,” the late-afternoon show was booked because of a Liverpool boy's interest in the group.
Also being sold is a red jacket owned by Paul McCartney. Originally acquired from the “Hung On You” Boutique, Paul McCartney reportedly wore this jacket in 1966-67 during the Sgt Pepper recording sessions and in publicity photographs promoting the album.
The items are being offered as a collection only and a full prospectus with pictures and details is available upon request. Sale deadline is Dec. 16, though the collection may be sold before that if a suitable offer is made.
Authenticity paperwork and provenance will be provided for each piece, and the buyer will also receive a variety of additional collectibles including original ticket stubs, vintage photographs, newspaper clippings, songbooks and more.
