Beatles' albums storming iTunes best-selling charts on first day of sale

It's only been the first day since the Beatles showed up on iTunes and already they've hit the best-selling charts there.

A look at the chart at roughly 3:30 p.m. ET, less than a half a day after going on sale, shows the Beatles "Abbey Road" at No. 8 and "The Beatles" (White Album) at No. 9 in the top 10.

Other albums on the charts: "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" at No. 14, "1967-1970" (The Blue Album) at No. 16, "1962-1966" (The Red Album) at No. 17, "Rubber Soul" at No. 19, "Revolver" is 23, "Magical Mystery Tour" is 24, "Let It Be" 25, "A Hard Day's Night" No. 27, "Please Please Me" No. 28, "Help!" No. 32, "With the Beatles" No. 34, " "Past Masters Vols. 1 and 2" No. 36, "Beatles for Sale" No. 45, "Yellow Submarine" No. 63.

And the complete Beatles Box set ($149.00) is No. 13.

Give us new content. Not a rehash of what we already bought in a lossy format. The folks buying these are just lemmings...

As I said in my other article, having the tracks on iTunes helps the general public. These people have had iPods, but not mp3s of Beatles music. For them it's a big thing.

Hey, you know what? Maybe, just MAYBE, we "lemmings" are excited about this announcement because now new generations will have more direct access to the Beatles' revolutionary (#9?) catalog. Maybe some of us buy things because they're actually worth our money, not because we just feel like following the crowd. Newsflash!!

I agree with you Steve. For anyone who hasn't gor the MP3's it is a big deal. And I'm not at all surprised at where the albums are ranking in the top 10. Anyone who knows and loves the Beatles would expect nothing less.

And So What....your spelling is LOUSY

  • So what 1 year ago

My point is we WANT new content...not what anyone could buy for 14 months plus! If you own the remaster DVDs it is a TOTAL waste to get the same via iTunes. Oh, Lady Macca, watch you spelling as well ("gor")...

  • Sousa 1 year ago

It's not a waste for the millions of people who did not buy the remasters. I realize this isn't what YOU wanted. But lots of people don't want CDs anymore, and lots of people only want certain Beatles songs. This iTunes move is for the casual fans, not us rabid folk. And that's fine.

  • So what 1 year ago

Let's see what the poll says. I bet the masses of Beatle fans find iTunes irrelevant. But I will respect the poll findings. So this is your chance to have all these CD hating folks man up and vote...

Will they play on my Zune?

Also, are there limited times that these songs can be copied to a PC. What happens when you replace as many PCs? Will they not show up on the PC library?
