Beatle news briefs: Yoko's surprise; new photo exhibit; Fest's psychedelic blast

Yoko Ono made a surprise appearance at the Amnesty International Pussy Riot concert Feb. 5 at Barkleys Center, Larry Brewer, who attended the show, told Beatles Examiner.

He wrote on Facebook, “So, last night we head out to Brooklyn for the Amnesty International Concert where Madonna introduced recently released Russian protest punk band Pussy Riot. The night featured Bob Geldof, Blondie, Lauren Hill, Susan Sarandon, Tegan & Sara and the Imagine Dragons. After four hours, out comes 81-year-old Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon with the Flaming Lips. They, or the night, did not disappoint.”

The New York Daily News reported Pussy Riot was introduced by Madonna, who they said thanked the group “for making pussy a ‘sayable’ word in my household. Now, my 8-year-olds say it all the time.”

Rock Paper Photo Beatles exhibit opens: A collection of Beatles photos by Astrid Kirchherr, Tom Murray and Henry Grossman opened Feb. 4. in New York. Grossman was at the opening, as was Beatles author Bruce Spizer. You can see photos from the opening in the slideshow.

Peter Max meets the Fest: Famed psychedelic artist Peter Max has drawn a poster for the Fest for Beatles Fans which begins Friday. The Fest says a limited number of copies of the poster will be available for sale to those attending this weekend. It also said that a New York hair salon, Senses New York, is doing special haircuts so you can look like George Harrison or Pattie Boyd. You can see a picture of the poster in the slideshow.

TV interview: We're thrilled to announce we'll be featured in an interview on KPIX-TV in San Francisco at 11 p.m. Saturday. The interview will be repeated on their morning news shows on Sunday, then go on the station's website where it'll be available for a couple of weeks.

In the video spot: A preview of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr singing during Sunday's "The Night They Changed America: A Grammy Tribute to the Beatles" on CBS.
