Beatle news briefs: Tony Bramwell added to Beatles festival; new live Yoko

The Beatles festival Abbey Road on the River announced Monday it has added former Apple Records CEO and author Tony Bramwell as consultant and speaker for the 2013 Memorial Day event in Louisville, Ky. Bramwell will be a part of a keynote presentation that will feature an interview with him by Abbey Road on the River producer Gary Jacob.

Additional names in this year’s line-up include Herman’s Hermits with Peter Noone, Leon Russell and former Wings guitarist Laurence Juber, along with many Beatles tribute bands from all over the world. More information at www.abbeyroadontheriver.com.

MORE BBC: In addition to “When Wales Was Fab,” about a Beatles gig there in 1963, another very recent Beatles show on the BBC was “The People's Songs: 'She Loves You': You Never Had It So Good.” But unlike “When Wales Was Fab” or the very delightful “The Story of Pop: 'When We Was Fab,'" “She Loves You” isn't nearly as good. It overanalyzes one of the Beatles' best songs to the point of boredom. But it'll be up on the BBC site for a while to hear.

STARPEACE: Among their vast collection of live audio shows at Wolfgang's Vault is a recently added 1986 live show by Yoko Ono. The concert, from 1986 in Hamburg, Germany, on her Starpeace tour, includes several of her best songs: “Midsummer New York,” “Kiss Kiss Kiss,” “Goodbye Sadness,” “It Happened,” “Death of Samantha,” “Imagine” and “Give Peace a Chance.” The band includes Ringo Starr All-Starr Mark Rivera on saxophone, Jimmy Rip on guitar, Leigh Fox on bass, Benny Gramm on percussion and Steve Scales on drums. The sound is excellent and the band sounds powerful. The Vault also has five tracks from John Lennon live at Madison Square Garden.
