Ringo Starr's press office announced on Dec. 31 that Mark Rivera, a current member of Ringo's All-Starr Band, will be performing with Billy Joel on “Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve” on ABC-TV in the U.S. tonight. Joel will be the first musical performer featured on the show in the New Year, according to Billboard. The band will be performing live from Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.

The 5½ hour show will feature a huge list of performers from both New York and Los Angeles, including Blondie, Miley Cyrus, Pitbull, Fall Out Boy, Jennifer Hudson, Enrique Iglesias, Robin Thicke and the Fray, Billboard said.

Rivera's first solo album, “Common Bond,” will be released Feb. 18. One track from the album, “Turn Me Loose,” is already available. Ringo Starr is among the guest performers on the album.

In an interview with Beatles Examiner in 2012, he said the album will surprise people. “I love to sing,” he said. “And people don't expect to hear what they hear out of my mouth because they're so used to me being a background singer. Hopefully, we give them a good surprise.”

A thank you from Freda: In a message Dec. 30, Freda Kelly thanked fans for the support of “Good Ol' Freda,” both the film and the DVD. “I would like to wish everyone a great New Year with good health and every happiness for the coming new year and I thank you for all your support and kind comments over the documentary,” she said in a note on the film's Facebook page. We picked “Good Ol' Freda” as one of the top 10 Beatles news stories of the year.

Pictures from Japan: Paul McCartney's website PaulMcCartney.com posted a collection on photos from his recent shows in Japan by his photographer MJ Kim. A nice collection worth checking out.

Have a safe and healthy New Year.
