Beatle news briefs: 'Nowhere Boy' U.S. DVD release date hint

NOWHERE BOY' U.S. DVD COMING? We haven't seen an official announcement, but Amazon.com has the U.S. release of the "Nowhere Boy" DVD and Blu-ray listed for Jan. 25. We're checking to confirm this and let you know more as soon as possible. If the U.S. release confirms to the UK Region 2 version, it'll have commentary by director Sam Taylor-Wood, deleted scenes, a tour of Liverpool, featurettes on recreating the Quarrymen and the making of the film, an extended interview with Taylor-Wood and the anatomy of the scene "That's When I Stole Him." Early editions of the UK DVD also came with a "limited" leaflet of photos from the film. You can see our review of the film here.

CONCERT FOR JOHN: Rolling Stone.com also reported on the tribute concert for John Lennon last week headlined by Jackson Browne.

THOUGHTS FOR DARA: Our friend Dara Roberts, who met Paul McCartney in Philadelphia earlier this year, just went through some complex back surgery in New York. Her dad, Wayne, told us on the phone Saturday she's doing well, but that she'll be in the hospital for a few more days. We're thinking about you, Dara.

LOOK BEFORE YOU BUY: From Beatles Blogger, an interesting garage sale tale. It pays to check before you buy. http://bit.ly/c9wbw1

WEIRD NEWS DEPT.: From the Toronto Globe and Mail, "Harper hopes for Beatles sing-along at dinner with Emperor of Japan."

LIVE AND LET DIE: At left is a great compilation video of Paul McCartney performing "Live and Let Die" from Porto Alegre. (It's been on the Paul McCartney Examiner side, but not here.) Listen to the crowd reaction after the pyrotechnics go off. Additionally, Lizzie Bravo sent us this link to "Honey Don't" from the soundcheck.

Odd bit of trivia. The new top 100 on the British album charts came out yesterday and No. 35 was the Beatles' red album, No. 36 was the Beatles blue album and No. 37 was Band on the Run. Three in a row!
