Beatle news briefs: No mistake -- Paul McCartney hasn't played in San Francisco since 1966

McCARTNEY INTERVIEW, PART 2: The second installment of Paul McCartney's interview with the Scottish Daily Record is online. Our favorite quote is this one about Paul's assessment of his place in history: "Imagine trying to teach five-year-old kids about us. If children are studying the 20th century, I'm in their text books." Sounds like a proud man there.

BACK-TO-BACK JACKS FOR MACCA: The big news Monday was the announcement of two new Paul McCartney Up and Coming Tour shows in San Francisco (remember our exclusive story in April?) and Salt Lake City. But the announcement on Paul's website mentioned that the new show at San Francisco's AT&T Park would be the first time he'd played in San Francisco since he was with the Beatles at Candlestick Park in 1966. What about the Wings shows at the Cow Palace June 13-14, 1976, you ask? The Cow Palace is in Daly City, just outside the San Francisco border, and not in the city itself. It often, however, gets mistakenly placed there. The new show also will mark back-to-back times Paul McCartney has played in the home of the San Francisco Giants, as AT&T Park is now the baseball team's nice modern home after moving from cold and windy Candlestick.

APPLE SIDE UP: In his latest blog, Bill King of Beatlefan took a different view than we did of Liam Gallagher's involvement with the upcoming movie of "The Longest Cocktail Party." He said if it were to focus on the employees rather its "superstar owners," it "certainly would lend itself to something along the lines of last year’s bawdy (and thoroughly enjoyable) 'Pirate Radio.'" And he suggested Michael Palin would be a great choice to play Derek Taylor -- having played Eric Manchester, in "The Rutles" version of the Beatles story. Interesting.

LET IT BE@40: The playlist for last Sunday's "Breakfast With the Beatles" hosted by Chris Carter on KLOS-FM, a celebration of the 40th anniversary of "Let It Be," included "Get Back" session outtakes "Another Day," "Gimme Some Truth," "All Things Must Pass," "Every Night" and "Child of Nature," "Save the Last Dance For Me" and "The Long and Winding Road" from "Let It Be ... Naked."

LONDON/LIVERPOOL/HAMBURG TOUR: Charles F. Oh, BFD, aren't you splitting hairs about the last time Paul played SF?

  • Dee 2 years ago

Well, given that it's been 34 years (!!!!) since he's played a show in the San Francisco area, I'd say it's a BFD (as you so eloquently put it) however you do the math.

Anyone who's read "The Longest Cocktail Party" knows that The Beatles themselves are minor characters. The main characters would be Derek Taylor and The House Hippie. And what is he doing these days?

I always thought LOngest Cocktail Party would of made a great stage play.

you wouldnt even need charachters to play the Beatles since it was rightly posted that they were minor charachters. would be a cool scene at the end where the phones in the press office go quiet.
