The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles announced Feb. 12 it will go retro with a listening session of the monaural “Meet the Beatles!” album at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Clive Davis Theater. Marvin Etzioni of Lone Justice will host the session. After the album is finished, he will talk with former Beatles label Apple Records president Jack Oliver. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in person at the Museum Box Office or online. For more information, call (213)765-6803 or visit the museum website.
Ringo exhibit extended: The Grammy Museum also announced recently the “Ringo: Peace & Love” exhibit is being extended until April 27. It was originally scheduled to close in March. The incredible exhibit features items from Ringo's life from his childhood through the Beatles and on to his solo career. It includes several of his drum kits and Beatles clothes and costumes and an interactive drum lesson from the man himself. Highly recommended.
AHDN teasers?: A cartoon from the Criterion Collection hinting at their 2014 releases shows, among other things, four beetles. Or is that four Beatles … as in “A Hard Day's Night”? Criterion also posted a picture of the Beatles on their Facebook page, acknowledging the 50th anniversary of their arrival on Feb. 7, but not mentioning anything else. There is still no announcement of anything except the Turner Classic Movies film fest. But a 50th anniversary re-release appears to be imminent.
