All the news that's fit to Beatle: Paul McCartney did a surprise walk-on on NBC's “Saturday Night Live” Dec. 21. McCartney was part of the opening monologue by Jimmy Fallon, who was guest host. You can see the full clip here or on the SNL site. The show also featured cameos by Madonna and Barry Gibb, whose clip you also can see here. We have pictures of Paul (and Gibb) here and in the slideshow. Barry Gibb also posted a picture on Facebook of Paul and Barry embracing.
Paul at “Cinderella”: According to Patti Murawski, Paul McCartney and daughter Bea attended a performance of “Cinderella” on Broadway in New York over the weekend.
Julian at SXSW: Julian Lennon has been announced as a speaker at the upcoming South By Southwest (SXSW) in March, 2014, the event's website announced this week. He'll be interviewed and perform live. Registration information is here.
Freda Kelly interview: Our interview with Freda Kelly of “Good Ol' Freda” on our latest episode of our “Things We Said Today” radio show is now online. It was great to talk with her and we thank Ryan White and Kathy McCabe for setting up the interview. As always, Freda is very charming and the interview has some very revealing moments. Book review: Journalist Mike Rowbottom of George Harrison's hometown Henley Standard reviewed the new biography of George Harrison, “Behind the Locked Door” by Graeme Thomson, which is primarily available in the UK. Rowbottom concludes the book shows “George was a relatively ordinary man who had brilliance thrust upon him. He responded to that by giving us some of the most enduring art of the last century.”
Stamp collection: Paul McCartney and daughter Stella are two of the celebrities featured in a new set of famous vegetarian postage stamps from PETA. Also available in the stamps for $17.99 are Bob Barker, Edie Falco, Mayim Bialik of “The Big Bang Theory,” Pamela Anderson, Sara Gilbert and Joan Jett. The stamps are usable as postage, though we can't imagine anyone not adding Paul's stamp to their collection.
Candlestick hangs tough: Tonight's San Francisco 49ers-Atlanta Falcons game was supposed to be the final event this year at the stadium and possibly its last. But the San Francisco Chronicle said today the Niners have a chance for the playoffs that could upset that timetable. Not to mention the possibility of a Paul McCartney concert to really close it out.
International Beatles Week announced: The lineup for the 2014 International Beatles Week in Liverpool has been announced, the Brtish Beatles Fan Club reports. Among those appearing will be Chris Montez, Tommy Roe and the Fab Faux. More information is avaialble in the brochure, which is available from this link.
