Beatle news briefs: Macca sings for Stern's birthday; Letterman's Beatles week

Howard Stern got a present from Paul McCartney Jan. 31 – a personal rendition of “Happy Birthday,” reported NJ.com, which followed the festivities with a live blog.

According to writer Jay Lustig, McCartney was shown singing “Happy Birthday to You” on videotape at 9:35 p.m. The song, reported previously by Performing Arts Examiner Harold Lepidus, was taped while McCartney was on tour in Japan.

Others paying tribute to Stern included Dave Grohl, Steven Tyler, Robert Downey Jr., John Fogerty, Slash, Kathie Lee Gifford, Rosie O'Donnell, Jon Bon Jovi, George Clooney, Katie Couric and Gilbert Gottfried.

Letterman's Beatles week: David Letterman will feature a week-long tribute of acts doing Beatles songs, reported Billboard.com Jan. 31. The musicians will include Broken Bells, Sting, James Mercer and Danger Mouse, and Sean Lennon, who will sing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” with Flaming Lips.

Letterman will also tape an interview with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for “The Night They Changed America” tribute to air on Feb. 9, the night of the 50th anniversary of “The Ed Sullivan Show” debut, though the date of the interview hasn't been announced.

Beatles to be honored: The New York Port Authority will unveil a historical marker inside the restored TWA Flight Center, paying tribute to the Beatles arrival at JFK Airport at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 7. The event is sponsored in conjunction with Radio Station Q104.3 FM and the Fest for Beatles Fans, which posted its schedule for the upcoming fest online.
