Beatle news briefs: Lennon birthday tributes filled with love - exclusive pics

We have a couple of exclusive pictures to share with you of some of the events this week celebrating John Lennon's birthday.

On Thursday there was a screening of "LENNONYC" at the Paley Center in New York moderated by the Fab Fourum with Dick Cavett and Dennis Elsas. We have a picture of the Fab Fourum co-hosts with Cavett. (Thanks to Mitch Axelrod of the Fab Fourum.)

Then, we have a picture from Saturday night of May Pang at the 25CPW Gallery where Beatles artist Shannon was creating a new painting of John Lennon after the showing of "LENNONYC" in Central Park. (Thanks to Ira Marlowe.)

In Liverpool Saturday, Pete Best was among those on hand at the dedication of Lauren Voiers' monument to John Lennon. (See video at left.)

And Ringo Starr, Olivia and Dhani Harrison all joined Yoko Ono in Iceland to sing "Give Peace a Chance," reported the Iceland Review.

Give Peace a Chance? Ha. Clearly, either Yoko didn't invite Paul to participate in the Iceland concert or he chose not to. I would not be surprised if she didn't ask him to participate because he was never part of the Plastic Ono Band thing and she didn't think John would approve. Or I suppose Paul could be acting like a stubborn fool again (aka, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing).

So much for giving peace a chance.

Paul and Yoko collaborated on "Hiroshima Sky Is Always Blue," so they have worked together on music in the past.

That's not the same as sharing a stage, is it? I'm guessing Yoko thought that if Paul was there, the whole thing becomes about Paul (witness the near hysterical reaction when Paul showed up for Ringo's birthday; all the press the next day was about Paul showing up). So maybe he or she -- or both them -- decided it was best for him to lay low.

Witness how Yoko took over WALHFMF at Ringo's birthday show at Radio City Music Hall. She took a mic and went front and center to the point that she was pushing Ringo out (I was there, i saw it all). I thought that was very selfish of her, it wasn't her birthday!

    The Icelandic newspaper reports:

"A crowd of over 1.000 people watched the 77 year old artist run around the stage, singing in her very special way, songs that almost nobody in the crowd knew, mostly songs by Yoko Ono. "

So, if she sang all her own songs, how was that a tribute to John.

    What a self serving woman.

Well this monthlong publicity orgy has been as much about her as about him. That's how she rolls.

Would you rather hear here ruin John Lennon songs by singing his songs?? No thanks.

YO/POB was great in Iceland. Yoko, Ringo & Barbara, Olivia were warm and familial with each other at the tower lighting party and at Sean's surprise Bday party aftershow (Dhani was NOT present). I am sure Paul was invited...his not being there only meant he wasn't there. Sometimes there aren't any hidden agendas...just love. Real love.
