Beatle news briefs: First volume of Lewisohn Beatles bio in works; new Blu-ray

COMING ATTRACTIONS: Recently, someone on Twitter noticed that the first volume of Mark Lewisohn's much anticipated Beatles bio is listed on Amazon.co.uk for publication Sept. 1. Sorry, but don't mark your calendars just yet, at least for the moment. We contacted Lewisohn to ask if the Sept. 1 date on Amazon was accurate. His reply, late last week, was to say "it’s due this fall (autumn) and I’m still writing." It's certainly a book a lot of fans are definitely looking forward to.

A NEW BLU-RAY: "Concert For George" is due on Blu-ray March 22, reports the excellent music website Musictap.net. The date is also listed on Amazon.com. No word if the new release will have any additional features.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: We put up a couple of very special stories last week. The first was a great interview with Beatles archivist Ron Furmanek in which he talked in great detail about some of the remastering projects he's been involved with for Apple. The other, on our Vintage Rock 'n' Roll Examiner side, was an interview with Monkees archivist Andrew Sandoval about the recent release of the Monkees movie "Head" in an expanded CD and on Blu-ray. Please check them out if you haven't already.

If Lewisohn is still writing and has not been through an editor at the publisher yet, Sept 1 is unlikely. Just for the production, normally publishers need to get a design for the book, and put it into production six months ahead of time to allow for the approval of proofs, etc. So September 1 is unrealistic for a book that is still being written and has not been through an editor at the publisher yet.

This has been listed with this date on Amazon UK for a long time now. I just checked my order for it and I placed it on 20th January last year

what? another Beatles bio? Is there any way to top spitz's book?

I'd like to read about their solo careers

Mark Lewisohn's books (mulitiple volumes) will be more thorough than any other book you read before; he has taken many years to research it. Forget the Bob Spitz book, that one was rated pretty low by us fans.

Spitz's book was excellent. Most of the criticism was about some minor errors, but, good grief, all Beatle books have errors. It was incredibly well written and a great read. It certainly didn't deserve the slagging a few people chose to give it.

Could you ask ML a few more questions such as the number of photographs to be included and whether Apple will allow publication of the photographs that they now own.

I just got Lewisohn's the Complete Beatles Chronicle for Christmas, just out of the blue from someone at work. How great is that? So far, I've just flipped through it, looking at the pictures. It starts on June 9th, 1957. I'm tempted to wait until June and then check it every day. The Beatles stayed so busy. I probably would not be able to keep up.

And the George Blu-Ray, I watched both discs when I got the DVD. I'm not sure if I've watched it much since. I mean, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr all doing George Harrison songs, And then Paul shows up. Am I really that busy to have not watch this over and over again? Maybe I was waiting for the Blu-Ray and didn't know it.
