Beatle news briefs: Beatles collectible find; N.Y. concert presale details

A lucky collector scored a Beatles hair brush over the weekend.
NEMS Enterprises

John Robinson at WFMK reported on Jan. 13 on his station's website that he was one lucky guy. He found a never opened Beatles Hair Brush from 1964 similar to the one in the picture, but white instead of red.

“I found this – never opened, still sealed in its original package -- over the weekend and paid a few bucks for it. I checked out its value when I got home and discovered it’s worth at least $400,” he wrote on the WFMK website, where you can see a picture of his actual find. Nice going, John!

Harrison track missing: Bob Dylan Examiner Harold Lepidus on Jan. 13 reported the track lineup and bonus materal for the upcoming “Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration” CD and DVD reissue does not include George Harrison's version of “If Not For You,” which was not in the original release but was bootlegged. The good news, though, is that rehearsal footage will be on the DVD versions. Harrison was among those seen in the bootlegged rehearsals.

Presale password: NYCFAB50 told Beatles Examiner Jan. 13 that tickets are now on sale for the Town Hall “America Salutes the Beatles” concert in Manhattan on Feb. 8 and gave us the password you can use to purchase them. The Beatles Examiner presale password for tickets is beatle (case sensitive) and they are available through Ticketmaster. The concert will feature a collection of veteran music legends including Tommy James, Gary DeCarlo of Steam, Melanie, Gene Cornish of the Rascals, Greg Hawkes of the Cars, Ron Dante of the Archies, Fred Schneider of the B-52s, Marshall Crenshaw, Walter Egan, Ian Lloyd of the Stories, John Ford of the Strawbs and Aztec Two-Step.

Discounted hotel deals: Two Broadway hotels, The Milford Hotel NYC and the Millenium Broadway Hotel are offering discounted rates for fans coming to the Big Apple to enjoy all the great Beatles happenings. The Millennium, also in Times Square, is the home of the Hudson Theatre and the "Across The Universe" Music Festival. Rates at the Milford Hotel are only $159 for doubles and only $179 at the Millennium Hotel for fans mentioning code "BEATLES50" for a limited time. That is the only code which will guarantee the special rate. The Milford Hotel NYC is at 700 8th Ave. in the heart of Times Square and the Broadway Theater district (phone 212-869-3600), and the Millenium Broadway Hotel on 14 West 44th St. (212-768-4400). We're told those rates may not be available for long, so if you're planning a Beatles vacation in New York during the 50th anniversary celebration, you may want to book these hotels now.

CD giveaway: Win a copy of the CD from Jeff Slate's Birds Of Paradox autographed by all the members of the group, including Jeff and former Wings members Laurence Juber and Steve Holley and former members of Elephants Memory Gary Van Scyoc and Adam Ippolito. More details at Ken Michaels' website.
