Dave Schwensen, author of “The Beatles In Cleveland” (available in print and also at $4.99 for the digital version), told us Sept. 6 that his Kickstarter campaign to fund “The Beatles at Shea Stadium,” a planned book on the Beatles' Shea Stadium show, was a success.
“It came down to the wire Tuesday, but we met the goal. In fact, contributions went over the goal. Beatles fans really came through when it was time to 'Help!'”
According to the site, 29 backers raised $1,707. He said plans now are for the book to be out in October. The first chapter is here. We'll keep you informed.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN: The Nutopians will be celebrating John Lennon's birthday in four upcoming shows, the group announced Sept. 6. They are Oct. 9th at The Cutting Room NYC, 44 East 32nd Street, New York, NY, Oct.10 at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT., Oct. 11, at The Suffolk Theater, 118 E Main Street, Riverhead, N.Y. and Oct.12th, at the new Towne Crier Café, 379 Main Street Beacon, N.Y.
BBC HOLDUP?: As of this writing, all has been quiet about the still-unconfirmed Beatles “Live at the BBC, Volume 2.” One interesting and completely unconfirmed (and possibly make believe) tale making the rounds is that a reason for the delay is that changes had to be made because of the recent sex charges involving Rolf Harris, the singer of “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport,” who once sang the song with the Beatles. Their version, according to the rumor, was originally planned for the CD but now won't be included.
EMMY NOMINATIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED: Almost hidden away in The Emmy Award nominations for this year is the fact that “12-12-12,” headlined by Paul McCartney, was nominated for “Outstanding Variety Special” and “Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special.” “The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards” airs Sept. 22 on CBS.
HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE: Paul McCartney announced recently that you can now find him on the photo and video sharing site Instagram under the monicker (guess what?) Paul McCartney. “Fans who follow Paul on Instagram will get to see exclusive photos (and maybe even a video or two!) taken during the studio sessions for his 'New' album,” his website said. He's already on other services, including Twitter, Vine and Google+.
TIME PASSES SLOWLY: On this page is a video from the recent “Bob Dylan: Bootleg Series Vol. 10: Another Self Portrait,” with George Harrison and Bob Dylan singing “Time Passes Slowly.”
