BEATLES AT THE BEEB IS BACK: The BBC is rerunning "The Beatles at the Beeb" radio series with host Andy Peebles. Part 1 is up now, though Aug. 5. (Thanks to Old Fred.)

RUMOR HAS IT: There are whispers that the Beatles vinyl remasters won't be out this Christmas, but remastered Red and Blue CDs will.

HARRISON BOX SET REISSUE?: If you've seen the George Harrison "Dark Horse Years 1976-1992" box set listing on Amazon.com for release Aug. 17 and wonder if there's anything new, there isn't. It's just a restock.

INTERVIEWS AND MORE INTERVIEWS: We've done a bunch of interviews recently and hope you'll check these out: Carlos Alomar ("Fame"), Gary Wright, Phil "Fang" Volk (Paul Revere and the Raiders), Gary Van Sycoc (Elephant's Memory) and Sarah Furlow, the Paul McCartney fan whose back he signed on stage in Nashville. You can also find those links and more in the widget at the bottom of the page that lists everything we've written lately. We hope you check them out.

PAUL'S NOT THE ONLY ONE INVITING FANS ON STAGE:  Pat Simmons sent us this story from Ringo Starr's show in Cleveland: "Ringo paused to read some signs (no, he didn't steal Paul's "sign story"!) and when he saw one that said 'I need a hug,' he said 'Well, come on up then!' The delighted fan ran up to the stage and he got down on his knees, leaned over the edge of the stage, and gave her a big ol' long-lasting bear hug!! How cool is that!?!? As the grateful fan staggered back to her seat, Ringo got to his feet, started walking toward center stage again, looked down at a guy in the front row who was waving madly at him, and said 'Ohhhh no, I'm not hugging YOU!!'"

OTHER NEW BEATLES PRODUCTS: Don't miss our story on the new licensed Beatles products.

LEAVE IT TO WEEKLY WORLD NEWS: Supermarket tabloid Weekly World News, "The World's Only Reliable News" as they like to call themselves, has come up with a beaut: "Paul McCartney at White House: Lennon Appears." According to WWN, John Lennon's ghost appeared on stage at the end of the White House performance by Paul McCartney. They claims there's a videotape.

NEW ADDITION: The Plastic Fauxno Band, with Drew Harrison (the Sun Kings), Tiran Porter (of the Doobie Brothers, White Album Ensemble), Chris Solberg, Donn Splidt (the Rubinoos) and Bobby Strickland (Todd Rundgren), will be performing "The Concert for John Lennon" at Beatles Fest West Oct. 8-10 at Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Francisco. Also on the bill are the Sun Kings, Christina Trillo (who knocked everyone out last year), The Return and more.  Information on the show is here.

FREQUENT FLYER: Paul McCartney was back in Liverpool this past week for the LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) graduation. The guy is everywhere, isn't he?

HAVING A DRINK WITH PAUL McCARTNEY: Cute story from a Wall Street Journal blog about sitting next to Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell at a fancy restaurant and sharing a bottle of wine.

VETERAN ACTS PROTEST MERSEY FEST: A group of '60s Merseybeat veterans led by Brian Jones of the Undertakers have complained about the fact that veteran acts are being left out of this year's Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool in favor of tribute groups. “I find it incredulous that no stage for the presentation of original Merseyside bands from Liverpool’s golden era is going to be available this year. It was Liverpool bands, not only the Beatles, who resulted in Liverpool being named as Capital of Music by the Guinness Book of Records and for Liverpool also to obtain the tag ‘Britain’s Number One Music City’ recently," said Bill Harry, founder of the venerable Mersey Beat newspaper. Hopefully, this will be resolved next year to accommodate everyone.

LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST WINNER: Alternative Country duo Madison Violet was named the winner of the Maxell Song of the Year from the 13th annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest for their composition, "The Ransom." The duo, Brenely MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac, won $20,000 in addition to other prizes.
