Beatle news briefs: BBC Radio to run Lennon audio doc; Lennon events calendar

HOME SWEET HOME: BBC Radio 4 will run a half-hour audio documentary called "The Lennon Visitors" at 11:30 a.m. next Thursday. The show, about the popularity of visiting Mendips in Liverpool, will feature an interview with Colin Hall, Mendips caretaker, and also former Beatles fan club secretary Freida Kelly and Colin Hanson of the Quarrymen. The website is here. As BBC shows usually go online for a short time later, this might be one to look out for. (Thanks to Steve Beauchampe in the UK.)

MACCA DAUGHTER TO PEN VEGGIE COOKBOOK:

FIRESIGN THEATRE RETURNS: Admittedly, this has little to do directly with the Beatles, but we know that we spent many hours back in the '60s and early '70s with friends listening to Firesign Theater when we weren't listening to the Fabs. Firesign has been compared to the Beatles in their impact on comedy. (For that matter, so has Monty Python, but anyway.) The FT will be doing live shows at Oct. 8 at the Marin Center Showcase Theater, Oct. 9 at the Marin Gallery Theatre and Oct. 21-23 at the Barnsdale Theater, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. Tickets: www.firesigntheatre.com. Actually, there is kind of a Beatles connection. Their album, "How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're Not Anywhere At All?" had pictures on the cover of Marx and Lennon -- Groucho Marx and John Lennon. So what's your favorite Firesign? "Nick Danger, Third Eye" and the whole "Don't Crush  the Dwarfs, Hand Me the Pliers" album are ours.

PAUL IS REALLY DEAD?: After watching the terrible "Paul McCartney Is Really Dead" DVD, it was interesting to see a more serious (and entertaining) look at that thing on YouTube. Part 1 is in the video spot on the left side of the page.
