Beatle news briefs: Apple CDs to be updated?; Astrid exhibit; Beatle on demand

ANOTHER SLICE OF THE APPLE: A report that the Apple Records catalog on CD is about to be remastered may have some bite to it after all. Roger Friedman of Showbiz411.com wrote about this on Thursday, though this has been rumored for some time. It'd be nice if it is to happen that bonus tracks were added. The question is, of course, when.

LENNON REMASTERS NOTE: There have been several questions under our story announcing the John Lennon remasters asking why so soon after so many of the Lennon albums have already been reissued. The word we hear is the new remasters use Lennon's original mixes.

ASTRID EXHIBIT TO ACCOMPANY BOOK: That new book about Astrid Kirchherr we told you about in our last Beatle news briefs won't be the only thing happening this fall. The Victoria Gallery & Museum in Liverpool told us they'll have an exhibit of her photos opening Aug. 24.

FANTASY CAMP'S RINGO CONNECTIONS: Former Ringo Starr All-Starr Band member Mark Farner and Ringo producer Mark Hudson will both be a part of the next series of Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camps in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas and Chicago. Information: http://www.rockcamp.com

JUST WHO WAS LORD WOODBINE?: His name isn't the most familiar in Beatles history, but Lord Woodbine has a distinct place in it. The UK Independent has an informative profile on him.

BEATLES CATALOG LIVE: The Liverpool City Council has announced in a press release this week that this year's Mathew Street Festival will feature a live performance of every Beatles song. "Revolution No. 9" and "What a Shame, Mary Jane", too? (Thanks to Charles Rosenay!!!)

BEATLE ON DEMAND: Thumbing through the On Demand menu on our cable system, we found Ringo Starr's "Soundstage." It's probably on other similar services around the country. And below is a video of Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach at the Grammy Awards.

Fingers crossed that this time we might see Lon & Derrek Van Eaton's "Brother" album on CD. (The Woodbine article is excellent by the way.)

It'd be cool to see a "Complete Apple" box set of all the non-Beatles / Yoko stuff. I've always wanted to hear the more obscure Apple releases - i.e. the Van Eaton album, Elephant's Memory, "The Pope Smokes Dope", etc.

The original Apple CD's had bonus tracks. Sadly, many of them are out-of-print.
