Beatle authors to conduct lecture for historic studio's 80th anniversary

Brian Kehew and Kevin Ryan co-authored a fantastic book called "Recording the Beatles" on the recording methods used by the Beatles. Now they'll get to talk about what went on there from inside.

As part of the studio's 80th anniversary celebration, Kehew and Ryan will give a presentation on the history of the studio in Studio Two, a site used by the Beatles and many others at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. March 3. "Eighty Years of Recording at Abbey Road Studios" will examine the history of the studio, its fabled recordings and the technology used to make them.

Their book, ""Recording the Beatles," shows the equipment used by the Beatles, but also discusses recording methods and how they were applied to different songs. It's a deep journey into the Beatles' studio magic.

The authors tracked down people who had worked in the studios. Kevin Ryan said, "Some of them weren't eager to talk at first, having been constantly asked about the Beatles for decades. But once they saw we were approaching the topic from a very different perspective, they realized they had quite a bit to contribute."

The presentation will discuss the history of Abbey Road Studios using rare photos, film and audio. Recordings by  Abbey Road alumni including the Shadows, Peter Sellers, Pink Floyd, the Hollies, the Swingin' Blue Jeans and, of course, the Beatles, will be included.

The film scores that were worked there, including "Star Wars," the "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" films and "The King's Speech," will also be discussed. Vintage studio equipment will also be featured.
