Colder tempertures have sent many people inside as the city's residents hibernate for the winter. But for those itching with cabin fever, there are still several outside activities take advantage of. Northern Kentucky's Campbell County Enviromental Education Center is hosting a series of January hikes for those wishing to stretch their legs.
The hikes, which are centered on active nocturnal animals in the winter, identifying animal tracks and how animals stay warm in cold weather, are suitable for both young children and adults. Preference is given to Campbell County residents, but neighboring residents are welcome to join. Pre-registration is required, as the hikes are limited to 15-20 people.
- Night Hike- Jan. 8 at 6pm (Limit 15 people)
- Winter Wonderland Hike- Jan. 16 at 1pm (limit 20 people)
- Nature Scavenger Hunt- Jan. 23 at 1-4pm (limit 10 teams)
- Advanced Animal Tracks Hike- Jan. 30 at 10am-12pm (Limit 10 people)
All hikes are located at the Campbell County Enviromental Education Center (1261 Racetrack Road, Alexandria, KY). Register at ces.ca.uky.edu/campbell or by calling 859-527-2600.
Keep in mind that all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Dress in warm layers and wear boots, not tennis shoes.
