Multiple bears drag a woman from her garage onto the driveway after nosing through her garbage cans for food. Several contradicting reports also say that just one bear dragged the the Florida woman, CNN reports April 13.
"There were several bears observed near the area, but one bear is responsible for her injuries," said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Greg Workman.
Seminole County Sheriff's Lt. Pete Brenenstuhl said that a black bear "dragged her from inside the garage out into her driveway." Her face and legs were injured with scrapes and cuts. She managed to escape the attack and ran back into her house. She was taken to the hospital for treatment after her husband dialed 911.
Local 10 in Miami wrote that the incident happened Saturday night. Wildlife officials in the state had warned people about black bears and cubs being active searching for food now that winter is over. People are strongly advised to use bear-resistant garbage cans so that type of attack doesn't occur again.
If bears don't find food in an area, they move on. No one wants to hear about a headline that bears drag a woman, man or, child a house. It's good advice to be especially mindful of large wildlife with their young due to their protective nature.
