Bearer of the Heavens is one of the more interesting rares we've seen from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Journey Into Nyx." While it's not a competitive card Bearer of the Heavens' ability makes a huge impact, and this is one mighty creature that will certainly see play in multiplayer formats like commander.
Bearer of the Heavens - 7R
Creature - Giant (Rare)
When Bearer of the Heavens dies, destroy all permanents at the beginning of the next end step.
To hold the heavens from the earth is no curse, but a titanic responsibility.
Eight mana for a 10/10 is respectable, however it's Bearer of the Heavens' ability which creates a quandary for your opponent. Do they deal with it now and risk you gaining card advantage or try and keep it on the table...and still give you card advantage while chump blocking away? Because Bearer of the Heavens says "next end step" your rival can still use their Hero's Downfall to take it out prior to attacking you with all their creatures.
Perhaps the best way to gain value out of Bearer of the Heavens is to make your permanents indestructible, say with a Boros Charm or Frontline Medic. Even if you don't control any other creatures, it's going to be hard for your adversary to win when they don't have a single land on the battlefield and you're able to cast every card you draw. Tajic, Blade of the Legion will survive the impending doomsday, however with a Mogis, God of Slaughter it'll be just a few turns until it's over.
One card worth considering in any deck attempting to abuse Bearer of the Heavens is Darksteel Ingot because it is indestructible and will help you reach the eight mana needed to cast huge giant.
How will you use Bearer of the Heavens?
