Given everything that the University of Cincinnati football program has been through in the last 3 months, to bring in any notable recruits at all for 2010 was something of a minor victory. To bring in the 22 recruits that actually did sign should be considered a major success for first-year head coach Butch Jones.
"With the structure of getting our staff here, playing in the late bowl and having a couple dead periods of recruiting sandwiched in there, it made it extremely challenging," Jones said after yesterday's recruiting rundown press conference. "But I can't say enough in the job our staff did in assembling this class. We're very excited about the potential of it."

When former coach Brian Kelly left Cincinnati for Notre Dame, the status of the 2010 recruiting class (and the football program itself) was up in the air. With the quick hiring of Butch Jones from CMU and the retention of recruiting director Kerry Coombs, the Bearcats got back on the recruiting trail after only a short lull. While several big name recruits were lost (i.e. Matt James, Jibreel Black), the Bearcats met their needs on Signing Day and brought in some potential stars at the same time. Jones, however, says the Bearcats aren't yet done with the 2010 class.
'We're still going to continue to recruit for this class. There are some area needs that we would like to be filled. We're still looking to recruit this class and then we'll move onto the class of 2011," Jones said.
