Bear attacks woman: A Florida woman managed to get away when she was attacked by a bear in Seminole County Monday night. The woman was walking her dogs when the incident happened and now officials are hunting for the animal, Headlines and Global News reports Dec. 3
The bear attacked the walker at 8 p.m. on English Ivy Court. Luckily the woman from Longwood didn't suffer any life-threatening injuries. Her wounds were treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
The woman's identity hasn't been released. What's known about her is that she was walking her dogs when the attack occurred. A bear came out of nowhere and began mauling her. She got herself out of the potentially tragic situation and ran to a neighbor's house. The bear had run off at that point.
A representative from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said sometimes bears venture into other more public areas to eat off scraps. Since it's fall, bears are consuming as much as they can to fatten up. The best thing people can do is remove anything from their yards that attracts bears.
It's a good thing the woman was able to escape the bear attack. When animals begin mauling someone, they mean business. The best way for anyone to avoid bear attacks is to be watchful and don't have food lying around.
