Beamer's perfect Saturday play list

Have you ever created a perfect play list for your MP3 player? Each song blending into the perfect arrangement, one after another, and completely meshing with your workout or road trip? If so, you know it's definitely one of the more satisfying accomplishments in life when that list goes without a hitch.

If Frank Beamer created a play list for Saturday, it was darn near perfect, in both planning and execution, as No. 13 Virginia Tech rolled over Appalachian State, 66-13.

The first four plays of the game; A Justin Myer touchback, a DeAndre Presely rush for no gain, followed by Antone Exum scooping up a fumble forced by Derrick Hopkins, and capped with a 20-yard touchdown sprint by David Wilson.

Just like the play list read, but the hits didn't stop there.

Beamer's list also included such hits as:

David Wilson gaining 162 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries.

Logan Thomas throwing for 149 yards and two scores in his Hokie debut.

A defensive effort which held the Mountaineers dangerous spread offense under 100 yards rushing for much of the contest.

And in classic Beamerball fashion, a blocked punt recovered in the endzone by Kyle Fuller.

The only thing Coach Beamer's play list might not have included was the warm pregame ceremony honoring his 25th season at the Hokies' helm.

A video in his honor was shown as Beamer was presented with a painting of himself by school President Charles Steger and athletic director Jim Weaver. Also at halftime it was announced coach with the second highest win total among active Division 1 coaches -- 240, second only to Penn State's Joe Paterno (401) -- had sign a contract extension to keep Beamer creating play lists in Blacksburg through 2016.

His next attempt will be next Saturday when the Hokies travel to East Carolina to take on the Pirates.
