For beaders who love nothing more than to spend time browsing through beads and findings you will be disappointed to know that yet another local brick and mortar store is closing. Bead Circus in Lebanon is joining Beads Direct USA in Mason, AllyBeads in Milford, and the Tri-County World of Beads stores in closing its doors. Soon the only place you will find its vast selection of seed beads and unique earring designs and Peruvian animal beads will be at the Bead Circus on-line store.
The owner Molly Merrow was not shy in expressing her opinion that beaders themselves are to blame when stores like hers are unable to compete with the internet and the big box craft stores. She commented how many beaders would browse through her store for ideas and advice, then purchase their supplies online or at the box stores. They bemoan the fact that the specialty stores are closing but are not willing to pay a few pennies more for personal service, the ability to mix and match products, and even be greeted by a personality such as Charlie the store cat.
The store is scheduled to remain open at least through the end of April with significant discounts (up to 50%) on all of the in-store merchandise, even the creative pre-made original earrings and earring kits. Be sure to take this last opportunity to support and give your best wishes in person to Molly and Charlie. It might also be a good time to consider supporting other local businesses.
